Tools of the Mind
Lev Vygotsky, a Russian psychologist who thought play was the key to learning, died in 1934. But his work lives on in a curriculum called Tools of the Mind. Created by Drs. Elena Bodrova and Deborah Leong, the cirruculum uses carefully guided play to stimulate what neuroscientists call “executive function”: a combination of memory, impulse control, persistence and flexibility that researchers say may be an even more powerful determinant of educational success than IQ. Aimed at pre-school and kindergarteners, this program is implemented in all DC public schools, 50 schools in New Jersey, and many other areas throughout the country. www.toolsofthemind.org

There's a sweet store in downtown Ashland called Nimbus. In business for years, it offers a fabulous selection of designer shirts and pants for men. The online storefront is called His Favorite Shirt. ruby slipper's lucky stars led her there one day where she met the charming owner Ken and his hilarious colleague John. They already had code covered via Happy Dog Web Design. It was the start of many great relationships and several iterations of the site. Need a refrigerated vehicle? Enter ReeferPRO — a division of Meridian Specialty Vehicles, the folks who can custom-outfit any type of vehicle — from bookmobile to SWAT truck. The refrigerated business has been growing so quickly that Meridian decided to open an operation just for this purpose: ReeferPRO. What do you think of when you hear Astoria, Oregon? The Goonies of course! What a surprise to get a call from a health clinic so far away. They wanted a new WordPress website, and that's what we built. This site is all about the patient. They can access their e-medical records, refill prescriptions, find out about services offered. Where do Victoria's Secret models work out? In NYC with former champion boxer Michael Olajide and former professional ballet dancer Leila Fazel. The space is sleek and sexy, as are the trainers who teach the high-intensity group fitness classes. ruby slipper had the privilege of re-tooling the NYC website for the Ashland space, as well as a handful of print materials: business cards, gift certificates, ads, flyers. Health Care Coalition of
Southern Oregon
The Health Care Coalition of Southern Oregon (HCCSO) supports non-profit community health centers and public health agencies. They secure and manage federal grants for various funds, including Healthy Start. For example, they have managed a project which has significantly reduced infant mortality and low birth weight for over 6,000 program participants in Southern Oregon. ruby slipper was invited to design the site and specifically, to showcase their member agencies and programs, provide resources for pregant women and new mothers, and to prepare an internal area for the board and staff. BLB Communications
What a sweet little WordPress site! Brian Baumley is a PR exec who was very happy with his old site — except that it was coded using Flash. Therefore, no one could see it on their iPad or iPhone. Once again, ruby slipper collaborated with the talented Dana Bandy of Happy Dog Web Design, and together we created this modern solution. Brain can update the site himself and it comes with all the WordPress bells and whistles.

Mmm-mmm-Milagros Mexican food! Milagros is a new restaurant which opened summer 2012 in Ashland. Owners Susan and Steven Means are chefs who have spent time in Arizona and know how to do Mexican right. Milagros features burritos, tacos, burrito bowls, salads, and home-made salsa. Susan and Steven are committed to our community—they use organic vegetables from local Farmer's Markets, and serve farm-raised natural beef, pork, and chicken. Standing Stone Brewing Company
A leader in energy efficiency, environmental responsibility and community involvement, Standing Stone Brewing Co. is an excellent restaurant and brewpub located in downtown Ashland Oregon. In 2005, ruby slipper created the Standing Stone Brewing Company website and it has been one of our most prestigious portfolio pieces. A few years later, we created their stylish blog, News on Tap. In 2012, Alex Amarotico realized his mobile audience needed their own viewing experience. Collaborating with Standing Stone's talented graphic designer Ashley Nunes (who created the fabulous icons), ruby slipper implemented a useful mobile site, which automatically detects what device you are on and displays accordingly. Standing Stone is consistently listed amongst the top green companies in Oregon. They host with Canvas Dreams of Portland Oregon, powered by wind-energy. This site features the talent of photographer George Rubaloff.

Clearview
Talent Oregon's Newest Community, Clearview is a master-planned community in the City of Talent, Oregon. The first houses and commercial building have been completed and the project will eventually consist of a variety of housing types. When completely built, there will be single and two-story homes, town homes, and cottages. The first commercial building includes restaurants, offices and a 24-hour fitness center. To create this site, ruby slipper collaborated with the sales reps of John L. Scott Real Estate, and Brenda Cornett of BrandViva who created the logo. Kagyu Sukha Chöling
It's not every day that a Buddhist Lama calls about website design, but in Spring 2012, I found myself speaking with the wonderful Lama Yeshe of Kagyu Sukha Chöling. She has an incredible team of writers, thinkers, a graphic designer, and programmers. Together we discussed the needs of their audience and staff. We carefully constructed the new site map which logically and intuitively presents information. The design is a collaborative creation by myself and Brenda Cornett of BrandViva, KSC's graphic designer. We incorporated traditional symbols, highlighted important areas such as the Calendar, and carefully balanced white space with burgundy and a hint of saffron. The talented Ryan Stowasser is coding the site.

NCHERM
NCHERM, the National Center for Higher Education Risk Management, is a law and consulting firm dedicated to best practices for campus health and safety. These are the experts colleges and universities turn to when they want to address campus safety issues such as binge-drinking, hazing, date rape, harassment, suicide, and more in order to curtail campus tragedies.
NCHERM founder Brett Sokolow is also involved with several other sites designed by ruby slipper: The NCHERM Group, Title IX Expert Witness, ATIXA, SCOPE, and NaBITA. The new NCHERM site is coded using HTML 5 and CSS 3, and launched January 2012.

Located in downtown Medford, the Rogue Gallery & Art Center is a vibrant community art resource. They offer classes, workshops, and events for kids and adults. They showcase artists from our region in multiple galleries. Collaborating with the wonderful staff at RGAC, ruby slipper created a site that conveys their offerings — showcasing exhibits, membership benefits, and artists. ruby slipper coded the site in streamlined CSS and Happy Dog Web Design programmed many aspects of the site: people can register for classes, join, make donations, fill out volunteer applications, and view vents via a dynamic calendar.

An Ashland Oregon CLASSIC! encanto press letterpress printing & design was established in 2000 by Angie Clark. The name Encanto is Portuguese for enchanted, as in encantado de prazer or delighted to meet you. Angie, of Portland Oregon, created one-of-a-kind hand-crafted business cards, birth announcements, cards and wedding invitations. U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Forensics Lab
The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Forensics Laboratory is the only Lab in the world dedicated to crimes against wildlife. Multiple branches of science collaborate under one roof, with scientists evaluating evidence in an attempt to link suspect, victim, and crime scene. ruby slipper has worked with the Lab on several web-projects, including redesigning their site from the ground up. We identified three key audiences: scientists, law enforcement agents, and students and educators — and architected the site with information pertinent to each. We brainstormed interesting ways to communicate the Lab's work, such as Mystery Photos which tell the story about an unusual photograph.
