U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Forensics Laboratory

  US FWS Forensics Lab

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Forensics Lab is singular for many reasons: It's the only crime laboratory of its kind in the world. The victim is an animal. Multiple branches of science collaborate under one roof, with scientists evaluating evidence in an attempt to link suspect, victim, and crime scene.

Daily activities at the Lab are mind-boggling: Imagine working in the evidence room — where they receive boxes full of animal parts. Will it be a wolf? An eagle that got trapped in oil? A suitcase made from an elephant's hide? Envision life as a Lab morphologist, where your "office" is a room with a veritable zoo of dead animals used for identification purposes.

In August 2007, the Lab approached ruby slipper with the huge task of redesigning their site from the ground up. We identified three key audiences: scientists, law enforcement agents, and students and educators — then architected the site with information pertinent to each. We brainstormed interesting ways to communicate the Lab's work, such as Mystery Photos which tell the story about an unusual photograph. We amassed an impressive library of publications and identification notes. And when it came to design, we crafted something decidedly un-bureaucratic, while making sure we followed the government accessibility guidelines and web standards to a tee. The result is a singular site for a singular entity.

Chambers Family Fund

Chambers Family Fund   Chambers Family Fund supports endeavors such as ensuring a brighter future for girls and helping women become economically self-sufficient. Constantly approached for information, Chambers Family Fund sought to provide a wealth of material online. Great detail was paid to how the information was displayed — they wanted to state exactly what they seek and steer clear from areas outside their priorities. The end result is a website both informative and graceful. In 2005 they received an award for their website.

Prize Shoppe

  Prize Shoppe

Prize Shoppe compliments Jennifer Davis' fancy goods and fine furnishings boutique, PRIZE. From vintage to modern, PRIZE captures the imagination of shoppers, collectors and designers in search of a “prize.” ruby slipper partnered with Jennifer Davis to design this whimsical website which showcases favorite merchandise and features online shopping.

Standing Stone Brewing Co.

Standing Stone Brewing Company   Standing Stone Brewing Co. is a great restaurant and brewpub located in the restored Whittle Garage Building in downtown Ashland Oregon. Owners Alex and Danielle Amarotico collaborated with ruby slipper to dream up a unique online presence. The striking home page was Alex's idea, loosely based on the Tom Waits website (proving that inspiration can come from anywhere!). Their site also features a Community section which showcases Standing Stone's commitment to sustainability and the health of our community. For example, their buffalo meat from local Full Circle Bison Ranch is 100% organic. All spent grains are used by a local farmer for chicken and cattle feed. And each month, they provide 50 gallons of used vegetable oil to local biodiesel producers for their vehicles.

Hula O Kahawai

Hula O Kahawai   Hula O Kahawai ~ ruby slipper founder Erin O'Kelley Muck has always been passionate about the arts, so her parents weren't too surprised when she fell in love with Hawaiian hula dancing. When Malia moved back to Hawai‘i, Erin and 10 others formed Hula O Kahawai, a small troupe under the artistic direction of Barbara Chung. Devign

Devign   Devign® Principal Karen North is the ultimate wordsmith. Appropriately, her company focuses on creating original names, coining catchy taglines, and writing riveting copy. As she puts it, "the impact that original and carefully executed spoken, aural and written messaging can collectively have on a company's balance sheet is the impetus behind Devign®." Ms. North approached ruby slipper wishing to convey this unique offering online in three different languages. Her website stimulates the senses with an impacting color palette and offers portfolio examples that illustrate Devign's mastery at creating never-before-uttered names — including the one below: Flirtia.

Flirtia

Flirtia   Backed by a Seattle powerhouse, Flirtia was to be online's newest dating venture. ruby slipper was presented with a definitive wishlist: break into a competitive market, create a site with wide appeal, and finish it in three-months. We met our goals and provided strategic, architectural, copy writing, and design services; partners included Validio software development and Devign who created the name "Flirtia." Although the business was never launched due to other commitments by the business owner, the design remains one of ruby slipper's favorite portfolio pieces.
