Web Designer

Web designers take our clients’ ideas and develop vibrant and easy-to-use pages that amplify their mission and meet their visitors’ needs. Creative web designers bring websites to life with innovative visual elements and concepts.

Job Type: Part-time, contract

Rate: Depending on experience

Experience: 4+ years designing websites for a variety of industries; experience with nonprofits is preferred

Location: This position is virtual, and West Coast residency is preferred, although we will consider candidates from throughout the United States.

Responsibilities

Strategize and plan compelling and effective design concepts
Design strategic and compelling web pages that are intuitive, functional, and visually appealing. Once designs are approved, help oversee the implementation of the website and ensure it launches smoothly.

Establish standards, guidelines, and best practices
Through these standards, maintain the site’s appearance. Ensure that the visual elements align with the clients’ branding.

Collaborate with web design team
Work in partnership with other web designers, project managers, copywriters and web developers to integrate all required elements into a cohesive website. Provide expert creative guidance on the overall look, feel and functionality of web design projects.

Test and improve
Test and improve the design and functionality of the website. Improve it’s weak points. Troubleshoot any problems quickly and efficiently to limit the amount of time the site is not functioning.

Web Production Artist

Web Production Artists help establish and maintain our clients’ websites. They are creative, detail-oriented people who are experts with digital interfaces, can work well under stress, keep to deadlines, and has a keen eye for details — no matter how small.

Job Type: Part-time, contract

Rate: Depending on experience

Experience: 3+ years of proven work experience as a Web Production Artist

Location: This position is virtual, and West Coast time zone is preferred as Ruby Slipper is located in Oregon, although we will consider candidates from throughout the United States.

Responsibilities:

Maintain websites
Work with project managers to maintain and update current websites. This will include a wide variety of tasks – for example, swapping out logos, updating text, uploading graphics/photos, and updating homepage sliders.

Create web pages
Collaborate with our design team to implement new web pages and content on websites. Our programmer will handle the initial build (and create a handful of pages), after which you will be in charge of helping to build the rest of the pages. It will be your responsibility to ensure consistency and seamlessness with the brand’s identity and guidelines.

Apply finishing touches to web pages
Inspect website after initial development to ensure adherence to website design and style guides. Confirm that mobile, tablet, and desktop experiences flow seamlessly. Examine details such as spacing, element sizing, and style guidelines. Fix issues on-the-fly, and ensure polished presentation of websites to clients.

Test and troubleshoot design and/or website issues
Test website on multiple devices pre- and post-launch, and either fix issues or notify programmer of issues. Troubleshoot problems as they arise with the project managers and design/development team.

Administer monthly website maintenance
Assist with managing our signature website maintenance program, Ruby Care. This includes updating client websites with the latest themes and plugins, as well as documenting our updates.

Photo and graphic management
Create and maintain a list of all photos and graphics used on a website. This document lists each page and includes stock photos with links, client photos, stock graphics, and custom graphics. It’s a running tally of all visuals used on the site.

Junior Copy Writer

Copywriters possess exceptional talent with the nuances of writing copy for websites, social media, email campaigns, and print materials. These dynamic contributors craft knowledgeable and engaging text on a variety of subjects, meant for a myriad of target audiences.

Job Type: Part-time, contract.

Rate: Depending on experience.

Experience: 2+ years writing copy for a variety of industries; experience with non-profits is preferred.

Location: This position is virtual, United States residency is preferred.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with Lead Copywriter
Work in partnership with the Lead Copywriter to develop creative copy based on each client’s needs and goals.

Write clear, compelling copy
Create and edit original copy that is accurate, well-researched, and meets Ruby Slipper clients’ needs and deadlines. Write original copy for various mediums, e.g. ads, blog posts, newsletters, websites, social media. Edit and proofread additional copy as needed.

Research and interview
Conduct high-quality and thorough research to formulate ideas and support writing. Interview clients to learn about target audience, brand voice and project goals.

Collaborate with key stakeholders
Work with Lead Copywriter, clients, project managers, designers, other professionals on large and small scale projects, e.g. website launches and blog posts. Contribute ideas and suggestions.

Use SEO principles
Use search engine optimization (SEO) principles to maximize copy’s reach online. Collaborate with the Lead Copywriter and clients to determine target keywords for web pages and blog posts.

Web Developer

Web Developers are responsible for coding innovative designs and layouts for our clients’ websites. These hands-on professionals have strong knowledge of content management platforms, and a keen attention to detail to translate our clients’ goals into vibrant, functional websites.

Job Type: Part-time, contract

Rate: Depending on experience

Experience: 4+ years developing/coding websites for a variety of industries.

Location: Although this position is virtual, the majority of our staff and clients are located in Oregon, and therefore West Coast residency is preferred. 

Our Ideal Candidate has:

  • Proven experience in web programming/coding/development
  • Programming skills with WordPress
  • A practical knowledge of website interfaces, cross-browser compatibility, and web standards

Responsibilities

Build websites
Create custom designed websites using WordPress Divi builder. Collaborate with web designers to match visual design.

Maintain, expand, and scale
Manage maintenance, updates, expansions, and scaling of each website. Gather and refine specifications and requirements based on technical needs. Develop plans for completing larger projects, collaborate with colleagues, and suggest new solutions to improve existing websites.

Quality-test and troubleshoot
Test and optimize websites, code, and assets for maximum speed and scalability over multiple devices and browsers. Work quickly and carefully to complete small edits requested by clients. Optimize images and install fonts as needed.

Research and install plugins
When the need arises, research and make recommendations for the best plugin to use for additional functionality. When approved, install, configure, and test plugin.

Graphic Designer

Graphic Designers are highly creative and imaginative individuals who can take conceptual ideas and create visual representations, both in print and electronic media. We admire innovative designers who bring ideas to life with visual impact.

Experience: Strong experience in professional graphic design, experience with nonprofits preferred.

Location: This position is virtual, United States residency is preferred.
