Challenge

Merle Chambers Fund in Denver, Colorado is a non-profit focused on ensuring a brighter future for those who are most impacted by economic, social and political injustice. The Fund needed a website to reflect their mission, inspire their audience, and inform their community.

At the helm is Merle Chambers – whose past inspires: a 1960s student protester in Berkeley, an attorney, CEO of an oil and gas exploration company. She was the third woman to reach both the North and South poles. Her honors are many, including induction into the Colorado Business Hall of Fame. Ruby Slipper set out to build a website to honor her legacy.

“Ruby Slipper Designs produced our award-winning website that received the Council on Foundations’ Excellence in Communications award in 2005. Erin continues to update the website and does special projects for us. She is a talented and creative professional.”

Approach

As a longtime collaborator with the Merle Chambers Fund, Ruby Slipper knows their brand well. At the heart is the idea of heading upstream to figure out the cause of an issue, and address it at the source. Working with the team at Chambers we incorporated that symbolism throughout the home page: the logo, background elements, and in the photo behind the tagline “seeking upstream solutions.” We thoughtfully incorporated their soothing color palette of cream, greens, and blues. And we invented an intuitive blueprint for all the pages — Who We Are, What We Fund, How We Fund, Insights and Impact.

“Erin is always thorough in her conceptualization of projects and in their implementation. Over the years, we have worked with many consultants and Erin has been, and continues to be, the best and most responsive of them all.”

Results

Ruby Slipper has been honored to partner with the Fund since 2003, and proudly created their first award-winning website in 2004. In November, 2017, we unveiled a new website, which gladly promises all of today’s technological advances, plus beautifully showcases the work the organization endorses. The site is a collaborative effort: Executive Director Letty Bass and Program Associate Katy Arnold brilliantly honed the overall direction and message; Programmer Wes Straham, Genesis WordPress developer and founder of Appfinite, customized the Aspire Pro theme. And the outcome is a treasure to be enjoyed by all.

“Ruby Slipper knows our foundation well and can meet our needs without direction. Erin maintains open communication throughout every project and we love working with her.”
