We are clicking our ruby heels with excitement over our two recent web design awards for the Health Care Coalition of Southern Oregon (HCCSO) website! This shiny new site, launched in January 2021, won Bronze in the 2021 Indigo Design Awards (Website Design for Social Change category), and took home a Gold Medal in the 2021 Hermes Creative Awards (Website Overall, Nonprofit category)!
About the Award-Winning Website
This project was an all-star collaboration between our design and marketing team, and the amazingly dedicated folks at HCCSO. Between our group brainstorming sessions during the Discovery phase and weekly reviews while building the site, we learned about their mission, their challenges, their hopes, and their vision for the HCCSO website and organization’s future. Getting to know these non-profit marvels has been the icing on our celebration cake!
We are enamored with the look-and-feel of this award-winning website — it’s professional, approachable, fresh, inclusive and represents families from all walks of life. Best of all, it provides valuable information and resources for the people it’s meant to serve. We love helping nonprofits like the Healthcare Coalition of Southern Oregon, and amplifying their mission to better serve our community!
About the Awards
We are so grateful for these honors, which recognize our team’s creative and innovative behind-the-scenes work.
The Indigo Awards celebrates exceptional artistic projects from around the globe. Projects are judged by a jury, and handpicked for their innovative contributions in the digital design world. Categories include Graphic Design, Digital Design, Branding, Mobile Design, and Design for Social Change (our Bronze award category!).
We’re absolutely star-struck by this year’s jury lineup, with design leaders from Google, IBM, Duolingo, GitHub, Microsoft, Sony Bend Studio, and LEGO (just to name a few of the 50+ Indigo Jury Members) choosing from a slate of international submissions .
The Hermes Creative Awards is one of the oldest and largest creative competitions in the world, and winners range in size from individuals to media-conglomerates and Fortune 500 companies!
The list of Hermes award categories is massive, and runs the gamut of marketing and web materials: brochures, ads, website landing pages, postcards, e-newsletters, corporate videos and so much more. The judging process takes about eight weeks — working eight hours a day! — to review all the work that is submitted in each competition. We’re honored to have stood out among the huge list of international entries!
About Our HCCSO Design Process
For the Health Care Coalition of Southern Oregon website, we delved into our tried-and-true Emerald Process. The HCCSO-Ruby Slipper dream team worked together to plot a journey of web design, strategic marketing, and stand-out custom graphics.
We chose to focus on HCCSO’s virtual events that help the community learn, celebrate, and engage in a digital space. We also charted a plan to present new-baby resources to moms and caretakers in Southern Oregon’s Douglas and Josephine counties (including information about family planning, pregnancy, parenting, and so much more).
We knew that we wanted to clearly tell HCCSO’s story (starting with the organization’s birth in 1990) and their impact in Southern Oregon, especially the importance of an amazing federally-funded program — Healthy Start. We did this through two key pages: the Numbers & Story page and HCCSO’s History timeline page.
Lastly, we refreshed the HCCSO and Health Start brands with new logos, colors and font treatments to match the organization’s warm-hearted mission and regional focus. This new branding is woven throughout the website, and continues to guide additional marketing materials for the organization’s social media, digital and printed assets.
