West Coast Fencing Archive

The West Coast has a magical history of fencing, but as the decades roll by, stories are at peril to fade from memory. Thankfully, Archive historian Doug Nichols is collecting photos and writing stories to preserve the lore.

Challenge

The West Coast Fencing Archive asked Ruby Slipper to re-design a dynamic website where the public could meet the cast of characters whose stories leap to life when described by archivist Doug Nichols. We were asked to build the website so that the Archive team could manage it internally in the future.

“I’m thrilled with my website redesign! The care you took in learning about my requirements and patience with my variety of influences all paid off in your delivering out of the gate a site that was both inclusive of what we had discussed and a fresh take on my material.”

– DOUG NICHOLS, ARCHIVIST

Approach

Ruby Slipper set out to design an eye-catching, soul-touching website spurred by the collection left by Fencing Maestro Charles Selberg. Crafting a digital collection portraying stories, photos, tournaments, clubs, memorabilia and more.

“You have created for me a dynamic new platform that is transforming the way I communicate with my audience. The site has a great look and flow but more important to me is your having shown me step by step how to use the site.”

Results

A dynamic collection of history! Ruby Slipper is honored to have been entrusted with this assignment. What a joy to showcase the gorgeous old photos and feature over 100 of Doug’s articles. We hope fencing fans grab their tablet, settle into a comfy chair, and immerse themselves in the lore.

“Going from less-than-novice to an updating fiend has allowed me the freedom to expand my offerings and storylines in ways I’d only previously dreamed of. Thank you so much to you and your staff for delivering a great site that will keep me going for years to come!”
